Ready Or Not
Often youth workers tell me that they would love to use LeaderTreks but their students are not “ready” for leadership. I am not sure who made the rule; you can’t focus on leadership development until you show some leadership. I am also unsure of how someone shows leadership without anyone helping them learn about leadership.
I must also admit I don’t know what “Ready” means. Best I can tell “ready” means showing responsibility. But I am not really sure. By the way, responsibility and leadership are two different things.
What else is kind of odd is that youth workers think a group of students will reach “ready” at the same time. I often hear, “we should have a group ready in a few years.” How will they get “ready” at the same time?
At LeaderTreks we take non-leaders and develop them as leaders. We take students where they are at and develop them into leaders. No pre-qualifications, because we think everyone is ready to learn how to be a leader.
