Inner Armor

Like most Christians, I love the story of David and Goliath. The weak defeating the strong. God coming through against all odds. This story in 1 Samuel 17 is one of the first stories they teach you in Sunday School. It’s a great story of courage and faithfulness but it’s also a wonderful leadership lesson. There is the part of the story where Saul encourages David to wear his armor, thinking it will be David’s only protection. David at first is game, and he tries on the armor, but quickly David realizes that he doesn’t need this kind of armor because he has another kind that is better. David has inner armor. This inner armor has been growing in David ever sense he experienced God’s hand of grace while fighting lions and bears. God’s faithfulness towards David didn’t start when David faced Goliath, it had been going on for years. When God has created in you inner armor, it helps you be ready to face larger leadership challenges. You are ready to stand and fight for God and his people. Is it any wonder that David was ready to lead the army by fighting Goliath? Leadership confidence comes from knowing God.

How about your inner armor, is it growing? Have you taken enough risks over the years to see God’s faithfulness? Do you have confidence that God is with you in the battle? If not don’t panic. Start today to take small risks, trusting God to come through for you and develop in you a set of inner armor. As your armor grows so will the leadership challenges you face but you can always be confident that God is with you.
