Heroes of Youth Ministry

By Doug Franklin March 28, 2011

I spent this past weekend speaking at a youth ministry conference called Reformation in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. This conference was put on by a couple of awesome youth workers who want to help students in the eastern mountains of Kentucky. This conference wasn’t flashy or have lots of big name speakers, but it was a rock solid conference for helping students and youth workers. These conference leaders don’t have lots of money or support from their churches, but they do have heart and a love of students. They raise the money and donate their time to make it happen and they did a terrific job. Steven Bell and Chris Bumbalough serve their God and students well, sacrificing their time and talent to make a difference. I know in youth ministry we think big is best but I learned this weekend that caring about the least is best. So often we think making it in youth ministry means writing a book or impacting thousands but being faithful and caring for God’s kids is really where it’s at.
