FREE STUDY #1: above and beyond

This study is a part of our Pursuit One-Year Bible Study Curriculum.

This Christmas lesson will help students recognize the depth of God’s pursuit of us when he came to earth. Luke 2 emphasizes the low-profile nature of Jesus’ arrival. Jesus is born among animals and peasants in an outpost of the Roman empire—not the anticipated landing site for the Creator of the universe. Not only does Jesus’ birth show the extent of his pursuit, but it also demonstrates the humble nature of his Kingdom on earth, which would shock the Israelites, who were looking forward to a military leader who would rise against Rome.

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Luke 2:1–20

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • Why do you think Jesus chose to be born in a stable, rather than a palace?
  • How does it make you feel to know that God was willing to become human to pursue you?
  • How is God pursuing you right now?

MARK OF A DISCIPLE:

Disciples of Christ pursue the God who pursued them.

Memory verse:

Philippians 2:5–8

FREE STUDY #2: BEEN THERE, DONE THAT

bible study for youth

This study is a part of our Vantage One-Year Bible Study Curriculum.

The “Been There, Done That” Christmas bible study helps students realize the significance of Jesus coming to earth as a human and how that makes God accessible. This interactive lesson will take students deeper into what it looks like to have a God that truly understands us and our struggles. Because of how God became man on Christmas day and lived a life like ours, he understands what we’re going through and can walk us through hills and valleys.

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Luke 2:1–20

youth memory verse philippians 2

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • What details in the passage show that Jesus was really human?
  • How does Jesus’ coming to live among us show that he really understands?
  • How does Jesus understanding what you’re going through make a difference in how you act?
  • Knowing that Jesus gets your situation, how does that change the you talk to him in prayer?

MARKS OF A DISCIPLE:

Disciples of Christ trust that Jesus perfectly understands and redeems their struggles.

MEMORY VERSE:

Philippians 2:5–7

FREE Study #3: THERE’S MORE TO THE CHRISTMAS STORY

christmas bible lesson

This study is a part of our Encounters One-Year Bible Study Curriculum.

It’s easy to lose sight of the true story of Christmas—that Jesus was born in humility to bring his hope and salvation to everyone. In this Christmas lesson, students will examine the record of Jesus’ birth in Luke 2 to see if there’s more to the story than the typical nativity scene shows. By taking a closer look at some favorite Christmas movies and carols, students will identify the difference between Christmas cheer and the true meaning of Christmas. Students will walk away inspired and empowered to share what’s truly meaningful about Christmas with others.

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Luke 2:1–20

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  • What is one thing you have always believed about the Christmas story that is not actually recorded in this Scripture passage?
  • How would you have responded if you were one of the shepherds?
  • In your church, school, or community, who are the modern-day equivalents of shepherds—people who are looked down on?
  • What does it mean to you that God chose to enter our world this way—in such a humble time and place, among such lowly people?

MARKS OF A DISCIPLE:

Disciples of Christ celebrate and share the true meaning of Christmas—the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior.

MEMORY VERSE:

Luke 2:10–12

King of Humility is designed to help students engage with the King who was born on Christmas, and how his coming to earth turned the world upside-down. This interactive Christmas bible study will take students deeper into what it looks like to have Jesus as the King of their life, and how to live out the values of the Kingdom, rather than just the values of a holiday season. In this download you will find lessons on 1) Jesus’ Birth 2) Who is Your King?

BIBLE PASSAGE:

Luke 2:1–20

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
