But Wait …. There Is More
I have been sick for the past few days, sitting on the coach just waiting to get better. I have watched a lot of TV over these days and have come to really dislike the infomercial. From cell phone holders to cleaning solutions to blenders to airless storage bags, everything is available to you direct from the factory. The pitchman is always enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. I have noticed that every infomercial has the same ending, they give you the price and then say, “but wait there is more.” I guess the reason they do this is to entice you to think that it’s not just a good deal but an awesome one. Sure, at times I have thought, “wow, that’s a great price,” but then I remember I don’t need one, even less two of them. This line, “but wait there is more” did get me thinking about my own leadership. Do I deliver what people think or do I deliver more then people expect? When I was younger it was easy to deliver more. People thought my age should cap my leadership ability but because of life experiences I was able to deliver more. But now that I am almost fifty and people have higher expectations of me, I wonder if I am still growing. My commitment to leadership is still to grow. I want to study, experience, risk and challenge myself to leadership growth. That way, I’ll be able to lead from a “but wait, there’s more” mentality.
