Boring Christians

The world is full of boring, unexciting Christians. It’s full of people who have mastered the language of Christianese, and artfully put together wardrobes that match the Christian culture we have created around us.  We have artists and colors that we call our own, and even have harmonious ways we deliver the news on our Christian radio stations. We have built an empire in which admission is based on a set of rules rather than the faith that pours from your heart.  In fact it’s easy to pick out who the new believer is because they speak openly and bluntly about struggles and sin without hiding it in a prayer request.  This world is full of boring Christians who rigidly follow an unspoken system of do’s and don’ts.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live in that world.

 

C.T. Studd put it this way, “Some wish to live within the sound of Church or Chapel bell; I want to run a Rescue Shop within a yard of hell.”

 

The truth is, you are going to live forever.  You are going to live for all eternity, and the first 70 years or so are going to be here on earth.  Why play it safe?  Why make sure you fit into a fake mold that makes it look like you’re a great Christian.  Why not choose to spend these first 70 years taking risks and putting into action the passions and the gifts that God planted in you.

 

The thing to know about your passions (when they really are passions and not lusts or idols) is that they come from God.  God wired you uniquely to be energized and great at certain things.  He didn’t design and create you to live an unfulfilled life, he designed you with passions that will drive you and cause you to expand your ideas of what you are capable of.  Tied together with your burden and vision your passions will propel you into actions that change you from just having a burden, to becoming a solution.
