Self Awareness

By Doug Franklin May 2, 2011

As a youth pastor I had a consistent focus on students growing in their faith. This focus came from my personal make-up. My spiritual gift of apostleship was the influence of our focus. The good thing was I knew this about myself. I never tried to say that discipleship was more important than evangelism or missions, but because of who I was our main focus was discipleship. This self awareness helped me in untold ways. Because I was aware of how God wired me I didn’t spend lots of time trying out the latest fad in youth ministry. I didn’t try to be like other leaders in youth ministry. I knew who I was and what my passion was, and I and I stuck to it. This self awareness led to great joy for me. I never felt frustrated or lacking in ministry skills. I felt comfortable in my skin and happy to be serving Jesus where I was.  So how about you? Are you self aware and do you know how it can lead to contentment in youth ministry?
